Why Design for Recovery
Choosing a men's sober living program is about more than finding a place to stay. At Design for Recovery, we believe lasting recovery grows through consistent support, shared experiences, and an environment where every resident has the opportunity to move forward with purpose.
Our recovery residences are designed to help men rebuild their lives while preparing for greater independence.
The Foundation Behind Our Program
Structured LivingConsistent routines and clear expectations help create stability and make healthy habits easier to maintain.
Meaningful AccountabilityResidents are encouraged to take ownership of their recovery while receiving support from staff and peers.
Recovery-Focused CommunityLiving alongside other men working toward similar goals creates connection, encouragement, and mutual support throughout recovery.
Growth Through IndependenceEvery step is designed to help residents strengthen life skills, build confidence, and prepare for independent living.
Breaking Free From Familiar Influences
Recovery is often influenced by the environment you're surrounded by each day. Remaining in places that constantly reinforce old habits or unhealthy relationships can make it harder to focus on meaningful change. Moving into a recovery residence creates room for new routines, healthier influences, and a lifestyle centered around progress instead of past behaviors.
Men coming from San Marino can continue staying connected to family, work, and personal responsibilities while benefiting from supportive recovery housing that encourages lasting growth.

What We Offer

Employment Support
Returning to steady work is frequently the first tangible marker of recovery progress. Residents get direct support with resumes, interview practice, and the job search itself, backed by daily accountability that keeps momentum going.

Life and Recovery Skills
The habits behind lasting sobriety (routine, follow-through, financial responsibility) take shape through daily house structure and the accountability that comes from living alongside other residents.

12-Step Programming
Our program is built on 12-Step principles. We support residents in finding a sponsor, attending meetings consistently, and applying those values well beyond the meetings themselves.

One-on-One Mentoring
Each resident also receives individual mentorship, dedicated time to address what's actually happening beneath the daily routine, not just whether expectations are being met.

Money Management
Financial instability is frequently an underestimated relapse risk. We help residents build practical money skills: budgeting, saving, and habits that continue serving them after they've left the house.

Family Services
Recovery affects the whole family, not just the individual resident. We work with families to clarify what genuine support looks like right now, and how to stay involved without becoming overbearing.

Medication Monitoring
For residents managing prescriptions, consistency is essential. We help maintain medication schedules and keep residents connected with their prescribing clinicians.

Life in Our Sober Living Homes
Recovery isn't built through major breakthroughs alone. It often develops through ordinary moments that begin to feel different over time.
Preparing meals, following through on commitments, helping around the house, and learning to navigate challenges without relying on substances all contribute to meaningful personal growth.
Living in a substance-free home also creates opportunities to learn from others. Every conversation, shared experience, and milestone reminds residents that recovery is not something they have to face on their own.

Our Admissions Journey
First Contact
We start by understanding where things stand, whether you're calling for yourself or someone else. Our admissions team will talk through what kind of structure and support would genuinely help.
Determining What Fits
From there, we cover cost, logistics, and what your stay includes, so nothing is a surprise before move-in. We work together to figure out what actually matters: job support, daily accountability, or meeting-based structure.
Move-In and Beyond
Once it's clear this is the right fit, we walk through what move-in day looks like: housemates, a house tour, and expectations laid out clearly. Most residents adjust within the first few days.
In Their Own Words
Alumni share what changed for them during their time with Design for Recovery.

Recovery Creates Opportunities Beyond Sobriety
Supportive recovery housing provides the time and environment to rediscover interests, strengthen relationships, and create goals that extend well beyond recovery itself.
Rediscover the Things That Matter Most
Addiction often causes people to lose touch with hobbies, passions, and personal ambitions. Recovery creates the opportunity to reconnect with the activities and experiences that bring purpose and enjoyment to everyday life.
Improve the Way You Handle Challenges
Life doesn't stop being stressful during recovery, but your response to those challenges can change. Residents develop healthier ways to manage setbacks, frustration, and uncertainty without relying on substances.
Celebrate Progress Along the Way
Recovery isn't defined by one destination. Every week brings new milestones worth recognizing, from rebuilding trust with loved ones to achieving personal goals that once felt out of reach.
Build a Future Around Possibilities
As recovery becomes more established, many residents begin focusing on what's next. Career goals, education, healthier relationships, travel, and personal growth become realistic possibilities supported by a stronger foundation.
