Why Design for Recovery
A strong recovery environment should prepare residents for real life, not keep them removed from it. At Design for Recovery, residents have the opportunity to manage everyday responsibilities while remaining connected to a community that understands the importance of continued sobriety.
Our homes are designed to help men become increasingly self-reliant. Residents are expected to participate, contribute, and make thoughtful decisions while having structure and support available as they work through the challenges that come with rebuilding their lives.
The Foundation Behind Our Program
Structured LivingA consistent home environment gives residents a framework for organizing recovery, work, treatment, meetings, and personal responsibilities.
Meaningful AccountabilityResidents are encouraged to follow through on commitments and recognize the role their choices play in maintaining progress.
Recovery-Focused CommunityLiving with other men who understand recovery creates opportunities for encouragement, connection, and learning from shared experiences.
Growth Through IndependenceResidents gradually take greater ownership of their routines, decisions, and responsibilities as they prepare for life beyond sober living.
Creating a Healthier Place to Live
The environment around you can influence what becomes part of your normal routine. Returning to places or social settings connected to substance use may make it harder to establish different patterns, even when your intentions have changed.
Moving into a sober living home creates a different daily context. Residents return to a place where sobriety is expected, recovery is understood, and the people around them are working toward similar goals.
For men from Monrovia, Design for Recovery provides an opportunity to make that environmental change while remaining connected to family, employment, treatment, and the wider San Gabriel Valley.

Life in Our Sober Living Homes
At Design for Recovery, residents have their own schedules and goals while sharing a home where recovery remains a common priority.
The community is built through everyday interactions rather than formal activities alone. Residents may talk over a meal, check in with a housemate after a difficult day, or spend time together outside the home. Those small moments can make it easier to feel connected while continuing to work on individual goals.
Residents also have responsibilities within the household. Maintaining shared spaces, respecting other people's routines, communicating clearly, and following through on commitments all give men opportunities to practice the independence they will eventually need on their own.
