Why Design for Recovery
Choosing Design for Recovery, a men's sober living program, is about more than finding a place to stay. It's about joining a community that encourages accountability, personal growth, and the daily habits that support long-term recovery.
The Foundation Behind Our Program
Structured LivingConsistent routines and clear expectations help create stability and make healthy habits easier to maintain.
Meaningful AccountabilityResidents are encouraged to take ownership of their recovery while receiving support from staff and peers.
Recovery-Focused CommunityLiving alongside other men working toward similar goals creates connection, encouragement, and mutual respect.
Growth Through IndependenceEvery step is designed to help residents strengthen life skills, build confidence, and prepare for independent living.
Building Recovery Away From Familiar Patterns
Sometimes, the best way to move forward is by stepping away from the routines and environments that have made recovery more difficult. A new setting provides the opportunity to establish healthier habits with the support of people who share similar goals.
For men from Huntington Park, sober living offers the balance of staying connected to family, work, and the community while creating the structure needed to focus on lasting recovery.

What We Offer

Employment Support
For a lot of residents, getting back to work is the first real proof that things are changing. We help with the practical side of the job search: resumes, interview prep, applications, paired with the daily accountability that keeps momentum going.

Life and Recovery Skills
Recovery tends to stick when the rest of daily life feels stable. Through house responsibilities, structure, and accountability from housemates, residents develop the habits (budgeting, routine, seeing things through) that early sobriety is built on.

12-Step Programming
12-Step principles shape how our houses operate. Residents are supported in finding a sponsor, getting to meetings, and carrying those principles into daily life, not treating them as separate from it.

One-on-One Mentoring
Residents also get individual time with a mentor, someone to talk through what's really going on beneath the surface, beyond just tracking house rules.

Money Management
Financial pressure is one of the more overlooked reasons people relapse. We teach the fundamentals: budgeting, saving, building money habits that last well past a resident's time in the house.

Family Services
We know recovery involves the whole family, not just the resident. We help loved ones understand what real support looks like at this stage, and how to stay engaged without managing.

Medication Monitoring
Residents on medication get help staying consistent, tracking schedules and staying in touch with their clinicians so ongoing treatment doesn't get disrupted.

Life in Our Sober Living Homes
Life at Design for Recovery combines structure with the flexibility to continue moving forward. Residents often balance recovery with work, school, outpatient treatment, and personal goals while developing routines that support long-term sobriety.
Each day includes recovery meetings, shared responsibilities, mentorship, and meaningful connections with peers who understand the challenges of early recovery. These experiences help residents build the confidence and independence needed for life beyond sober living.

How Admissions Works
The First Conversation
Everything starts with a conversation, with you, or on behalf of someone you're worried about. Admissions will talk through where things currently stand and what kind of structure would actually help.
Working Out the Details
We'll walk through cost, what's included, and logistics up front, so there are no surprises later. From there, we focus on what genuinely matters: employment support, day-to-day accountability, or a structure built around meetings.
Moving In
Once we've confirmed it's a fit, we'll cover what move-in day involves: meeting housemates, a full walkthrough, and expectations laid out clearly. Most residents settle in within a few days.
In Their Own Words
Alumni share what changed for them during their time with Design for Recovery.
