Why Design for Recovery
The period after treatment can bring more freedom, but it also brings more responsibility. Design for Recovery gives residents an opportunity to practice managing that responsibility without having to navigate every challenge on their own. Our homes combine clear expectations with peer support, mentorship, and an environment that encourages residents to take an active role in their own recovery.
The goal isn't to keep residents dependent on structure. It's to use structure as a foundation for building confidence, better decision-making, and the practical skills needed to eventually manage life more independently.
The Foundation Behind Our Program
Structured LivingA consistent living environment gives residents a clear framework for managing recovery alongside work, treatment, meetings, and everyday responsibilities.
Meaningful AccountabilityResidents are encouraged to take responsibility for their choices and commitments while having support available to help them work through challenges.
Recovery-Focused CommunitySharing a home with other men committed to recovery creates opportunities for encouragement, honest conversations, and connection with people who understand the process.
Growth Through IndependenceResidents gradually take on more responsibility for their schedules, decisions, and daily lives, helping them build confidence before transitioning to independent living.
A Healthier Environment for Recovery
The surroundings you return to each day can influence the patterns you build. Familiar people, places, and situations associated with substance use can make it harder to establish healthier habits. Changing your living environment can create useful distance from those influences.
A sober living home introduces a different set of expectations and influences. Residents return to a place where sobriety is understood, healthy choices are encouraged, and recovery is part of the household culture.
For men from West Covina, Design for Recovery provides that change in environment while keeping them within reach of the people, work, treatment, and communities that remain important to their lives.

Life in Our Sober Living Homes
At Design for Recovery, residents have the freedom to build their own schedules while remaining part of a home with shared expectations. A typical day can involve going to work or school, attending treatment or meetings, handling household responsibilities, exercising, and spending time with other residents.
The community develops naturally through those everyday experiences. Residents may share a meal, talk after work, encourage someone through a difficult day, or simply spend time together between their individual commitments.
Living in our homes also means contributing to the environment around you. These interactions can make recovery feel less isolated while allowing everyone to maintain their own goals.

A resident's next step in recovery depends on where they are starting from. Some men may be returning to employment, while others may be continuing treatment, rebuilding relationships, or learning to manage responsibilities that became difficult during active addiction.
At Design for Recovery, our structured homes provide a consistent foundation while allowing residents to work toward their own goals.
The support that helps one person may look different from what another needs, which is why recovery has to leave room for individual circumstances and progress.
