Joey F.'s Testimonial for Design for Recovery

Before moving to Los Angeles, Joey’s life was unmanageable, and he found himself struggling with depression and unhappiness, despite not being an inherently depressed person. His addiction to oxycontin, consuming anywhere from 200 to 500 milligrams a day, had taken a toll on his mental health and financial well-being. Realizing he needed help, Joey made the life-changing decision to come to LA for treatment.

Initially, Joey was unsure if Design for Recovery was the right fit for him. However, within a week or two, it became clear that the structure, rules, and sense of brotherhood provided by the sober living home were exactly what he needed. The comfort and sense of belonging he experienced at Design for Recovery were unlike anything he had felt before, and it brought him back to his roots.

Although Joey had initially planned to stay for only a month or two, he ended up staying for seven or eight months. During this time, he began to embrace the morals, values, and routines instilled in him by the program. The support and guidance he received at Design for Recovery played a significant role in shaping his journey to sobriety.

Today, Joey is thriving in his newfound sobriety. He has a job that he loves, helping people on a daily basis in a way that he enjoys and appreciates. He maintains close friendships with the people he met at Design for Recovery, considering them his best friends to this day.

Looking back, Joey realizes that when he was using oxycontin, his only concern was ensuring that he had enough drugs to get through the day and maintaining an appearance of being okay. However, he now recognizes that mentally, he was far from fine. Joey credits Design for Recovery with a huge portion of the responsibility for where he is today and is immensely grateful for the support and guidance he received during his time there.

Joey’s story is a testament to the transformative power of a supportive and structured sober living environment. Through his experience at Design for Recovery, he was able to break free from the chains of addiction, rediscover his sense of purpose, and build a fulfilling life in sobriety.
