How Have You Been Personally Affected by Addiction?
Design for Recovery, a sober living for men in West Los Angeles, is offering an annual scholarship of $1000 to current and prospective college students studying in any field. If you have been personally affected by addiction, we’re interested in hearing your story.
To apply for this annual scholarship, let us know in 500-1000 words how addiction has affected your life and what work you have done to recover from it.
You do not have to be an addict or a recovering addict to apply. Design for Recovery understands that substance use disorder affects more than just one individual abusing drugs and alcohol. In fact, close friends and family are often the first people to realize there is a problem. All too often the experiences, stories, and the very real suffering that friends and family undergo goes unrecognized.
If you are involved in sober living communities or have a loved one who suffers from addiction you’ve likely experienced the devastating consequences of addiction in your own life. What does it take to love an addict in a healthy way? What challenges have you overcome? How have you changed your life for the better while learning to cope with addiction? We want to know your story.
If you yourself suffered from addiction, this is your chance to let others know how you freed yourself from the vicious cycle. What was it like, what happened, and what is it like now? What was the “rock bottom” that led you to decide to pursue recovery? Did you attend one of Los Angeles’ sober living homes or require financial assistance for sober living? How do you stay sober today? What sober activities do you do? No matter what your story is like, telling it is likely to help others, from people new to sobriety to those with years of sobriety who need a little reminder.
Design for Recovery believes that for people whose lives have been affected by addiction, education is a vital building block for developing a life that is healthy, prosperous, and free. We are committed to doing everything within our powder toward ending the addiction epidemic that currently faces this country.
While addiction is currently spreading like a wildfire, we believe that goodwill and service to others are practices that spread far more powerfully. By lending a helping hand with this sober living scholarship, we hope to contribute in a small way to a chain reaction that will one day eradicate the scourge of mass addiction, which claims approximately 70,000 lives a year due to drug overdose.
How Can I Get Design For Recovery Sober Living Annual Scholarship?
Please submit a 500-1000 word story by October 31, 2020. Design for Recovery will award one richly deserved student with an annual scholarship of $1000 by December 15, 2020. E-mail all submissions to scholarship@designforrecovery.com
