Design for Recovery extends a heartfelt congratulations to Steve Rickard, the winner of our 2020 college scholarship. Rickard’s openness and honesty in telling his story is an inspiration to all of us. He shows that it is possible to overcome any hardship as long as you’re willing to ask for help.
For the scholarship opportunity, we invited college students whose lives have been impacted by addiction to share their stories. The opportunity was open to people who suffered from addiction as well as people whose loved ones suffered from addiction. We wish to thank all of the students who shared their stories with us.
Steve Rickard, who lives in North Bay, Ontario, is a second year student at Canadore College. He is in his university’s Indigenous Wellness Addiction Prevention program, and he hopes to use this degree to make his community safer and healthier.
Design for Recovery is proud to award our $1000 scholarship to Mr. Rickard. We wish him the best of luck in his future studies!
Design for Recovery’s 2021 Scholarship Opportunity is now open for new submissions.
We are offering a $1000 scholarship to college students who are majoring in any field. If you have been affected by addiction, we want to hear your story. Send us a 500-1000 word story about your addiction experience by October 25, 2021. We want to know how addiction has affected your life, how it has affected other people in your life, and the steps you’ve taken to recover and rebuild your life in the aftermath of addiction.
Design for Recovery is a sober living home for men located in West Los Angeles. We help young men recover from addiction and rebuild their lives. Our mission extends to the larger community — even individuals who are not residents of our sober living home. It is our goal to support anyone who has been affected by addiction in any way. We believe that learning and recovering from substance use disorders is possible when people come together and support each other.
Please send in your stories by October 25, 2021. Design for Recovery will read through each 500-1000 word story and award one student the scholarship by December 1, 2021. E-mail all submissions to email@example.com.

I highly recommend this soberliving. I personally have met with the owner and he has became a family friend of ours. I sent my brother here and he has 7 months of sobreity and is one of the house managers. There is people who care!!
Taught me how to properly clean a house, build a fellowship, and stay in line when I had no boundaries for myself in recovery. Derek and David are great workers there and really care about their housemates. They are there to help you whenever and wherever they can.

Before Coming in to Design for Recovery, I was lost. Lost all hope, stopped caring for everyone, everything and Also stopped caring about my self. I was homeless, lonely, and was okay with that. I accepted the fact that I was going to die like that
